Back in 2006, Mia (now Theo) was sleeping in a bottom bunk, and it was toilet training time. When there was an accident, I would have to totally strip the bed to change the fitted protector under the sheets. Every night I would hit my head on the top bunk – I thought there had to be a better way.
So off I went to Spotlight. I grabbed some waterproof fabric, stitched some cotton on top (because eczema and dust allergies were part of the fun), and made the very first Brolly Sheet. I chose purple—because why not make it look fabulous also?
Friends saw it and wanted one. Then their friends wanted one. Before I knew it, I was selling at local markets.
That’s when I started getting questions like, “Would this work for my elderly mum?” or “Would it handle a teenager with disabilities?” Spoiler: the first versions wouldn’t. So I designed a more absorbent one—one that holds 2 litres and works for all ages.
I still design all our products and love talking to people at baby expos or disability shows about finding practical, dignified solutions for life’s messy moments. Whether it’s kids’ and adults undies, recliner protectors or adult bibs & bandanas.
Fast forward 19 years: we’re still making our Brolly Sheets with a soft cotton top (unlike everyone else).
