Two year 11 students (Mya and Kahn) produced this book with the Lion Foundation's Young Enterprise Scheme Northland (Sponsored by Top Energy), after realising what was on the market, wasn’t up to standard. They are catering to the needs of children like Mya’s brother, who has autism and other intellectual disabilities, who need help to learning skills like going to the toilet.
The problem they found with the current resources available, was that they felt there wasn’t a lot of care put into them. Mya didn’t want laminated pieces of paper joined by a ring, but a proper book. She took her ideas to school where Kahn jumped on board and the duo haven’t looked back since.
They designed the illustrations to be in neutral tones to avoid sensory overload and have simplistic wording with just one instruction per page. As well as a great resource for neurodiverse children, they are also ideal for young children starting on the potty training journey.
